In Her Own Words

I believed that going to college/university was my purpose, benefitting my future. And yes, I know everyone says these exact words; what’s so different about me saying it? To start, my mother has always told me I was the ambitious type. Throughout my entire life, I have always tried my hardest. Whatever I did, I gave it my all. Being capable of achieving this goal would mean a lot more than you think. Not just to me, but to my family.

For you to consider accepting me, you should get to know some information about me. I grew up in Trenton, New Jersey, with my mom and two younger siblings. Neither of my parents went to college, but my mom always taught me the importance of education. In my spare time, I enjoy reading various genres of books, including mystery, crime, horror, and romance. I also enjoy watching anime from time to time. And as a student, I never had the opportunity to participate in any physical activities in high school because I have asthma. Because of this, I immersed myself in visual and creative hobbies. I think of myself as a diligent learner and a hard-working and selfless individual. I may not be the embodiment of a “perfect student”; however, I always strive to succeed and never give in to pressure.

The interior design major is what I would like to pursue. This has been a hobby I devote my heart and soul to. I can see myself continuing this passion as I take on this major, taking in all the information needed to enhance my skills. While obstacles try to throw me off my course, I keep myself motivated by staying focused on my goals and dreams. For me, making my family proud is more important than being accepted. While being accepted would mean the world to me, making my family proud of my achievements would be even better. I want a future where I can take care of my family and enjoy what I do.

Aside from that, life for me wasn’t always easy. But no matter the challenge, my mom always did her part in raising my siblings and me. My mother is my role model, and I strive to be just as hard-working and supportive as she is. For instance, growing up, it’s only been me, my mom, and my siblings. With it being my mom just taking care of us three, my mother always provided for us three along with the help of her mother, our grandma. This act on its own demonstrated how it feels to struggle, but no matter what, to hold my own and not cave in to pressure. While we faced a lot, we overcame it, and it has changed how much our future is today.

As a student, my true goal is to succeed, but the first step is getting into college/university. I am dedicated to achieving this goal. Because I am ambitious, I will strive to carry through my objectives regardless of the difficulties I face. In being able to accomplish this goal, I would be the first member of my family to attend college or university. As I mentioned before, I am not the representation of a “perfect student.” I will make mistakes, but that's what makes me human. When I make mistakes, I learn from them, and I grow as a result. I understand that you have hundreds of other applicants; why should you consider accepting me? And truthfully, that decision is truly up to you. Because in the end, with your help I hope to achieve my goals and to have you accompany me along my journey.
